My five-week series, How to “Right-Size” Your Home and Life with Your Next Move, will help you determine when it’s time to “right-size” your home and move on to one that will better match the life you’re living now or the one you want to live. Your home should reflect your needs, wants, and budget — and maybe those have changed since you last bought your current home. Even a home you have loved!
Whether it’s moving up to larger home or moving to a smaller one, you’ll learn about the steps you can take for this next “right-sized” purchase, and also see how to buy and sell at the same time with maximum profits and minimal stress.
Most of us buy a home hoping we’ll live there a long time. But that doesn’t mean we need to stay in the same one forever.
There are many reasons why you might choose to move on to a new home, especially when your current home is no longer “right” for the stage of life you’re in right now.
Life changes and that’s okay if you feel like your home isn’t working anymore….
Does your once cozy home now feel cramped since you had another child? Or, do you now feel like it’s too noisy living near restaurants and busy nighttime venues? What about your job and commute — have they changed?
Maybe your oldest child is starting elementary school soon, or maybe your youngest just graduated from college. Or, maybe you’ve realized you want to travel more and not worry about the big house and yard.
Whether any of the above or something else has changed in your life lately (or will be changing) since you moved into your current home, you can find a new home that can be RIGHT for you!
What Is Right-Sizing?
If you’re a bit confused about what “right-sizing” means, I’ll clarify it some more so you’ll be ready for Week 2 of my series.
“Right-sizing” is a term I learned from one of my amazing coaches (I’m sure she’s not the only one who made it up, but I had never heard it before) that means your current home is either too big, too small, or not a right fit for your life now.
Rather than continue to put up with what’s not working anymore, you can make it “right” with your next home.
And it doesn’t have to only be about square footage of going bigger or smaller in size. For example, you might want to change up or “right” your expenses (mortgage payments, maintenance costs, condo fees) or location.
Your home plays a huge part in your day-to-day life, so if you are starting to daydream about a home that better fits your current needs and lifestyle, then this Right-Sizing Series is a must read.
Here are the upcoming topics for the weeks ahead:
Week 2: Move Or Stay — How to Know When to Right-Size
You’ll learn about both the financial and emotional factors that can push you to know that it’s time to right-size your home. You’ll know what to consider when it comes to mortgage rates, your finances, and the equity in your current home to make the move more feasible. Plus, you’ll see how to narrow down your needs and wants for the next home.
Week 3: The Two Questions You Must Ask Before You Right-Size
You’ll understand why it’s important to be methodical and purposeful when making decisions for this next move. And these TWO questions that you’ll need to answer will help you determine THE objective of your new right-sized home!
Week 4: How to Right-Size When Buying and Selling At the Same Time
You’ll get a great overview (or review) of how to buy and sell at the same time, plus how to avoid the dreaded homeowner’s Catch-22 dilemma. Everyone’s situation is different when right-sizing, and you’ll see why I’ve got it down to a science for determining whether you should buy your new home first, or sell your current one first.
Week 5: Strategies to Right-Size with Success
Even if you’ve bought and sold before, it never hurts to understand how today’s market works from prepping your home for potential buyers to understanding contingencies or lack there of in our NC contracts. You’ll know the right steps to take along the way to be more strategic and prepared — and find success with this right-sized move!
I’m Here to Help
I understand that just the thought of everything you have to do to go from where you are to where you want to be can feel overwhelming and stressful. That’s why I’m here to help you move on to your “right” next home with strategies that can make it all go smoothly and minimize your stress.
It’s always better to meet up as early as possible to pre-plan, whether you’re ready to move now, in a few months, or even next year or so. The sooner we determine how to best sell your current home AND discuss ideas of where you want to go next, you’ll feel more confident and knowledgeable to right-size at the right time!
If you or anyone you know is looking to “right-size” their home, I’d love to help. Reach out to me anytime or send them my way and I’ll take good care. In the meantime, be on the lookout for next week’s article, Move Or Stay — How to Know When to Right-Size. You’ll know what signs to look out for when you’re at the crossroads of deciding to move or not. Hope you enjoy that and the rest of my Right-Sizing Series!
